Wecome to Casas Mariposa! Our hideaway in a verdant jungle garden overlooking secluded beaches and the village of Yelapa is a 45 minute ferry boat ride across the Bay of Banderas from Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco Mexico. Savor the panoramic views across the bay, the misty mountainsides and spectacular sunrises upriver. Staying in the old village of Yelapa you will feel part of traditional life, awakening to the sounds of tropical birds, roosters and village life. Cicadas often fill the evening air.

There are two houses for rent: Casa Mariposa and Casa Iguana are located in an acre of sunny garden with unique tropical plants and large trees full of birds and butterflies. The sound of roosters and parakeet flocks flying by is part of the morning wakeup. The open construction of both houses provides cooling breezes throughout the year, yet the spaces are secluded and private. Unlike most rentals in Yelapa, both houses have Hi-Speed Internet.

The Area:

Our property is a 5-minute walk up from the town dock, village restaurants and shops. The waterside for best swimming along the side of the bay is just 7 minutes down the hill. The Yelapa main beach and its restaurants are a 20-minute walk through the town.

The best restaurants are in the village itself as the
beach caters to the daily tourists with predictable
Mexican seaside fare. The village restaurants are
exceptional and reasonably priced. I’m always
seduced away from cooking at home because 3
fresh blue corn tortillas tacos are available for $5
US at Los Abuelos and the grandmothers are
cooking them right in front of you. Or if you prefer,
the best BBQ chicken and ribs EVER or today’s sea
catch cooked 4 different ways are served up at Pollo
Bollo, a village icon of open air eating.

In fact, everything in Yelapa is open air because
the air is so lovely and fresh that there is rarely a time
when being indoors is preferable.

If you are traveling with your family or friends and
want to cook something at home, local stores carry a
good selection of provisions and cater to American
tastes during the high season. The linens and
serving-ware are sufficient to host 10 people for dinner
at Casa Iguana and 6 to 8 at Casa Mariposa.

A list of dining options and the guidelines for the
casa and life in the jungle will be sent to you upon
receipt of your reservation.
